There’s something about 20 Fenchurch Street that looks very familiar to us here at Brentwood Communications – and very good reasons why it has earned its nickname, the Walkie Talkie Building!
With its cuboid profile and curving front facade, the 38-storey skyscraper in the City of London does indeed resemble a wireless handheld communications device. And during its construction ahead of the building opening for business in 2014, two way radios supplied by ourselves had a key role to play in its development.
As a long term support project, we provided Motorola MotoTRBO DMR digital two way radios on a managed service leasehold basis. The main advantages of a managed service contract are that it includes regular servicing, maintenance and network checks from our experienced team of professional engineers. We also periodically reviewed equipment throughout the course of the project to assess whether there were better options to suit current needs.
The two way radios we supplied were used for general operational support throughout the project. Good coverage throughout the building was a priority, so we also installed a repeater, supported by a digital antenna system (DAS). Radios were supplied on a Technically Assigned License, providing exclusive access to a particular spectrum band on site and thus minimising interference from other radio users in the vicinity.
